In addition to literacy instruction in classrooms, reading services are offered in each elementary school (grades 1-5) and in the middle school (grades 6-8). Students who have demonstrated a need for extra attention and practice in the development of reading skills based on their performance on the NYS ELA assessments (https://www.nysed.gov/state-assessment/parent-resources), classroom performance, and the national exams provided by Northwest Evaluation Association are provided with reading services in smaller groups that allow for more individualized attention.  Elementary students are also evaluated by using the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System (https://www.fountasandpinnell.com/bas/) to help determine their strengths and challenges. Reading classes allow for additional time on-task to practice skills with certified specialists who seek to help all students reach their potential. Classes at the elementary level meet 3-5 times per week; at the middle school, reading classes meet on alternating days throughout the school year.
