The Theatre curriculum emphasizes development of aesthetic sensitivity, self-expression, creativity and poise through the examination and experience of this rich, historically significant performing art form. An introductory Theatre course as well as an advanced course, Theatre Workshop, are offered at the High School level. Introduction to Theatre meets on an alternating day schedule opposite a physical education course designed to support the physical aspects of acting. Theatre Workshop is a full unit course which meets every day for an entire school year. The graduation requirement of completing "one unit" in Fine Arts may be satisfied by taking the Introduction to Theatre course twice or by taking Introduction to Theatre followed by Theatre Workshop. The advanced course, Theatre Workshop, may also be repeated for additional credit.

Three plays are produced each school year providing exciting and diverse opportunities for the students to bring their performance skills to the public stage and to apply their technical knowledge to the "behind-the-scenes" aspects of staging a live production. A "Fall Play" presented in the High School auditorium typically stages a serious or dramatic production. In March, an annual Broadway style Musical Comedy is staged, bringing the talents of our instrumental and vocal music students into the production. The third production each year is a Theatre-in-the-Round style of production staged in our small gymnasium in late April or early May. This production is usually comedic in nature and offers an intimate setting which provides unique opportunities for our student actors to engage the audience. Students are selected for the on stage roles of all three productions through a live audition process.

Through the Arts in Education program, professional artists in the fields of art, music, drama and dance visit the schools throughout the district to work with students and help them to understand the nature of their art form.
