Making Connections with School Parades
05/29/2020
On May 2nd, Dutch Lane held its parade. When asked to describe what the event at her school was like, Principal Janine Rossi said, “I wouldn't even know where to begin. It was such a heartwarming day. All of our teachers, teaching assistants, psychologists, school nurse, secretaries, greeters, and monitors were in attendance. To be able to experience the human connection that you can only get from seeing each other's smiles was something that I will never forget. The Dutch parade was filled with so much gratitude, happiness, and love and it was so special for us to come together as a family. We all benefited from this experience and it is something that we will never forget.”

Olweus Anti-bullying Program Kickoff
02/12/2020
“Nice shoes,” one student said sarcastically to another who cringed and hurried past. “I like my shoes,” another responded as he got the dig. Yes, it did - as part of a skit designed to heighten awareness about bullying. Each of Hicksville’s elementary schools launched a new anti-bullying program in January 2020 - Olweus - to educate students about the harmful nature of bullying behaviors and, more importantly, to provide the tools students need to address situations in which they could become involved.

Telling Our Story: Dutch Lane Elementary
01/07/2020
One of four “sister” schools opened in 1952 to address Hicksville’s population boom – Burns, Dutch, Fork and Old Country Road – Dutch Lane has a rich history of being integral to the community and holding tight to those who have passed through its doors. “One example of our deep, long lasting relationships at Dutch is our current PTA President, Mrs. Weih,” said Principal Janine Rossi. “Amazingly, the family has had someone attending the school every year since it opened its doors in 1952.”
