The cold and flu season is upon us once again. At this time of the year, many children become ill with colds, ear infections, allergies, etc. If your child is not feeling well and you have medicated him/her prior to coming to school, please let us know, as many medications may make your child sleepy or out of sorts. Since vision and hearing screenings have begun, it is very important for us to know if your child is ill with anything that may affect these results.

In an attempt to minimize the spread of illnesses we would like to offer some suggestions and guidelines:

  • Colds can be severe enough to warrant an absence from school. Please use good judgment. If your
child is very irritable, lethargic, etc., they are probably unable to function in the classroom setting.

  • Colds that persist for a long time may have developed into an ear or sinus condition that may need medical evaluation.

  • Your child should be maintaining a normal temperature for a minimum of 24 hours before returning to school.

  • Usually if you are debating whether or not your child is well enough to come to school, the child will be better off with a day of rest at home. Sending your child to school when not feeling well is not in the best interest of your child. When a child feels under the weather, their ability to learn, attend and interact at school is affected.

  • Bear in mind that there may be others exposed to your child who have underlying health problems.

Stay well!
